THE WHY:

When you make something a priority, you demonstrate your commitment and show the value you have for that thing. Prioritizing your spouse is verifying your commitment to the relationship and showing that you value and respect your spouse as a partner and individual. Learning to prioritize your spouse is a way to strengthen the bond between you and your spouse to improve your relationship.

Prioritizing your spouse is not just about them but also you. When you are committed to your spouse, you feel a sense of fulfillment, which can lead to increased happiness and satisfaction.

When parents prioritize each other, it benefits the children in the home. The parents’ relationship can set a positive example for their children. And help them to understand the importance and significance of a strong and healthy relationship, creating a more stable and supportive environment where children grow and thrive. Remember, you married your spouse and not your kids, so your spouse should come first.

Because every relationship is different, there will be a varying amount of effort to be put into this prioritization practice. What might work for one couple may not work for the other. Therefore, it is essential to find out what works for you and your spouse and make an effort to prioritize your relationship.

THE HOW:

  1. Make time for each other: Set aside time for your spouse, whether going on a date night or simply sitting down to have a heart-to-heart conversation.
  2. Show appreciation: Take the time to show your spouse how much you appreciate and value them. This can be through small gestures like gifts or heartfelt words of appreciation.
  3. Communicate openly and honestly: Make sure to communicate openly and honestly with your spouse. This will help you understand each other’s needs and concerns and allow you to work together to resolve any issues that may arise.
  4. Please make an effort to understand their perspective. When conflicts or disagreements arise, try to see things from your spouse’s point of view. This will help you come to a resolution that works for you.
  5. Show your physical affection: Physical touch, such as holding hands or giving a hug, can go a long way in strengthening the bond between you and your spouse.

Remember, your spouse is your partner. You are a team looking to achieve, acquire and grow. Team work makes the dream work; therefore, the goal is to start putting in the effort one day at a time. Anyone in a relationship should work to make it a successful one. And it begins by making your partner a priority.
